WATCH: The Foo Fighters Rickroll Westboro Baptist Church
We interrupt your regularly-scheduled protesting for a brief musical interruption by The Foo Fighters.
Dave Grohl and his crew saddled up on the back of a pickup truck to rickroll the Westboro Baptist Church, who swarmed outside of their Kansas City concert venue to protest the group’s performance later that evening.
In the event that you are from the stone age and still refer to this interspace as a “World Wide Web”, “rickrolling” is a prank wherein the offensive party uses Rick Astley’s 1987 hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up” to disrupt their unsuspecting prey.
The Foo Fighters have previously challenged the Westboro Church’s protests, notably so in 2011.
Grohl commented on their decision to rickroll “they-who-will-not-be-named” during their concert before a performance of “My Hero“.
“We didn’t have enough time to put together the big old show that we put on last time, so we figured, you know what, why don’t we just f-cking RickRoll their ass? Cause nothing says love like a little Rick Astley in your life, you know what I’m saying? Never gonna give his ass up!”
