Zac Efron Is Older, Wiser and No Longer Singing ‘High School Musical’ Songs
What is a Troy Bolton?
Like you, Zac Efron is no longer a teenager. He’ll be 28 years young this fall and will have at least three movies for you to drool over next year, including Dirty Grandpa and the sequel to Neighbors.
To remind you of Efron’s maturity, consider this recent sit-down with Cosmopolitan UK. Efron and his We Are Your Friends family — actress and model Emily Ratajkowski and director Max Joseph — participated in a little game of song guessing. The trio was doing just fine (can anyone name a One Direction song these days?) until Efron’s past came to haunt him.
While he was quick to identify the movie, Efron struggled with the actual name of the song, “Breaking Free,” from the first High School Musical movie.
Perhaps it was the simple fact that too much time has passed since he sported that famous mop of HSM hair. Perhaps he’s completely forgotten everything related to Vanessa Hudgens, his ex-girlfriend and the other face of the HSM franchise (sorry, Sharpay fans). Perhaps it’s weird to listen to a song that features your young voice blended with another young voice.
Look, getting old hurts. You ditch your HSM hair. You say goodbye to your HSM relationships. You go on epic hikes with Bear Grylls. You move on, you make more, better movies. And you remind yourself, in the words of Zac Efron (from this interview): “There’s three movies of songs.”
