WATCH: Justin Bieber Resurrects His Music Career at the 2015 MTV VMAs
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No—it’s just Justin Bieber ascending into the rafters.
Bieber returned to the MTV Video Music Awards stage for the first time in five years, reinvigorated his purported positive new trajectory in his life and career. The singer kicked off his performance with his hit collaboration with Skrillex and Diplo, “Where R Ü Now”, transitioning into his latest single, “What Do You Mean?“
The singer appeared winded toward the end of his performance, taking pauses to catch his breath, when the Microsoft Theater suddenly cut to black on the outro of his belated summer anthem. Bieber was then hoisted into the rafters in the harness as he read a passage indicative of the emotional internal roadblock he is trying to surpass—indicated in his interview with Elvis Duran.
“Life is a journey. Sometimes a battle, full of the unexpected. Sometimes we focus on our destination and forget to focus on that journey. But when we fall, it allows you to get up stronger. It allows you not to focus on your own understanding. Give in to faith. Believe in something bigger than yourself, and find your purpose.”
The house lights went up and Bieber returned to the stage, reduced to tears, perhaps finally harnessed back down to planet earth.
