Apparently Idris Elba Is ‘Too Street’ to Be the Next James Bond
The author of the next 007 novel thinks Idris Elba is “too street” for the role.
After the Internet got us excited about the idea that Elba was in talks to play James Bond, many started to like the idea that he could be the next actor to get a license to kill. However, the author of the book doesn’t seem to think so.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Anthony Horowitz aired his opinion on casting a new leading man for the next Bond movie. When asked about what he thought about casting Elba for the role, he responded:
Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better. For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.
It’s easy to see why the Internet took this piece and ran with it. His comments got people talking about his choice of words, saying they were offensive and racist.

Is “street” the UK’s version of “urban” in terms of coded racism? Idris Elba is a lot of things, but “street” ain’t one of ‘em. — Jamilah Lemieux (@JamilahLemieux) September 1, 2015
James Bond is white and kills people FOR A LIVING but Idris Elba is “too street” to play him
