Cindy Crawford Speaks Out Against Her Alleged Unretouched Photo Leak

Cindy Crawford found herself caught in the middle of controversy when alleged unretouched lingerie photo of her from 2013 went viral – problem is, the leaked photo was fake.

The 49-year-old model is speaking out against the alleged unretouched photo from her 2013 Marie Claire Mexico and Latin America photoshoot, which falsely represents the model’s body.

As Elle Canada’s beautiful October 2015 cover star, she told the mag that she is “conflicted” by the fake image.

I felt blindsided. That picture didn’t reflect what I saw when I looked in the mirror — even in the worst dressing room lighting.

Indeed, there’s no question that photo was altered and a fake:

However, she didn’t speak out against the image because of the fact that it was being praised by fans for showing true and real beauty. She explained,

It put me in a tough spot: I couldn’t come out against it because I’m rejecting all these people who felt good about it, but I also didn’t embrace it because it wasn’t real. And even if it were real, I wouldn’t have wanted it out there. I felt really manipulated and conflicted, so I kept my mouth shut.

That being said, Crawford was skeptical about the praise the photo was receiving, and questioned the ways in which women perceive themselves and their bodies.

Why would seeing a bad picture of me make other people feel good? I know my body, and I know it’s not perfect, but maybe I have a false body image; maybe I think I look better than I do. I think that most women are hard on themselves. Sometimes, the images that women see in magazines make them feel inferior — even though the intention is never to make anyone feel less. So somehow seeing a picture of me was like seeing a chink in the armour. Whether it was real or not isn’t relevant, although it’s relevant to me. I don’t try to present myself as perfect.

As we previously reported in February, after the photo made the rounds on social media and caused a stir, Marie Claire issued a statement saying claiming that the photo was indeed from the past photoshoot, misleading the public into thinking that it was unaltered.

An unretouched photo of Cindy Crawford has been circulating on Twitter this morning, revealing a body that defies expectations—it is real, it is honest, and it is gorgeous…No matter where the photo came from, it’s an enlightenment—we’ve always known Crawford was beautiful, but seeing her like this only makes us love her more.

However, shortly after, the photographer from the Marie Claire John Russo spoke out and said to ABC news that the image was “stolen or unlawfully accessed and then altered and distributed to the media.”

It has been falsely claimed that this photograph represents an un-retouched image of Cindy Crawford. This is not true. It is a fraudulent altered version of my photograph. I am grateful that this fact has been brought to the public’s attention and that corrections are being run in the media.

Irregardless of everything, as always, Crawford looks stunning in the October issue of Elle Canada.
