Rita Ora on Ex-Boyfriend Calvin Harris: ‘I Thought He Had My Back’
In the October issue of Marie Claire UK, which the singer covers, Ora opens up about her past relationship with Taylor Swift’s now-boyfriend. Speaking frankly about their one-year romance, the 24-year-old says that she Harris would always be there for her — that is, until they broke up he barred her from performing their collaboration on national television.
“There was a reason why I split up with him,” Ora explains. “It was more of a thing where I was in awe. I was at that point in my relationship where I felt he could do no wrong. I thought he had my back and that he’d never steer me wrong. But then ‘I Will Never Let You Down’ came out, and everything started to go a bit weird. I don’t know if it was because business was mixed with personal or what.”
In 2014, Ora’s “I Will Never Let You Down” performance for the Teen Choice Awards was canceled after Harris, who wrote and produced the song, did not approve it to be televised. As a result, the songstress was forced scrap the months of hard work she had already put into the show.
Despite the bitter breakup experience, Ora, who split with boyfriend Ricky Hil this July after one year of dating, is still hopeful about love. In fact, she’s not so keen on being single these days.
“I’m afraid of being alone,” she says. “Sometimes love just makes you feel crazy. And that feeling that we have as girls, just to have that feeling, even for five seconds, it’s like crack. I mean, don’t compare it to that, but you know what I mean.”
