Sam Smith to Perform James Bond ‘Spectre’ Theme Song, ‘Writing’s on the Wall’

The name’s Smith. Sam Smith.

It’s been an emotional roller coaster for the British singer who finally confirmed that he will be the new voice behind the latest James Bond movie’s theme song “Writing’s on the Wall”. Fortunately, mixed emotions written in verse are kinda Smith’s bag, so we will all thrive in the end.

Smith teased the big announcement on his Instagram account with this black and white photo of the Spectre logo embossed on a ring, nestled in lustrous knuckle hair.

He followed up with the track photo with his sentiments written in the caption.

“This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations.  I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”

In July, Smith denied rumors that he would be singing the title track and claimed that Ellie Goulding would receive the honors. He continued down the denial trail through last week when he reiterated to BBC Radio that he would “definitely not” be taking the gig.

Oh, dry British humor. You so win again.

Sony’s official press release reveals that Smith teamed up with Jimmy Naples to write the blockbuster tune. Spectre producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli confirmed, “Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time.”

No hard feelings about “Skyfall”, Adele. Just keep on Chasing your Pavements.

“Writing’s on the Wall” will be available for purchase and streaming on Sept. 25, and Spectre, featuring Daniel Craig as Bond, hits theaters on Nov. 6.
