11 Things We Learned About Jennifer Lawrence From Her ‘New York Times’ Interview

Jennifer Lawrence is getting candid.

From Googling herself to her friendship — and upcoming film — with pal Amy Schumer, the Oscar winner is opening up about all aspects of her life in her latest interview with the New York Times.

Why was Kris Jenner at her 25th birthday party? What will she miss most about The Hunger Games franchise?

Here are 11 things we learned from her sit-down:

1. She knows how to laugh things off.

When the interviewer starts to list things she’s been through — her stolen nudes, her salary leaked online during the Sony hacking, falling down at the Oscars — in the past few years, Lawrence quips, “Could you maybe rattle off a few more mortifying things about me?”

2. She’s noticed a personal change since starring in The Hunger Games.

“I feel more in control. I’m calmer. I know that there’s no point to feeling anxious all day, so I try not to. I’m still scared, but it’s about different things.”

3. She Googles herself.

“You try being 22, having a period and staying away from Google. I once Googled ‘Jennifer Lawrence Ugly,'” she says, laughing. “Do I sound bitchy?”

4. She takes anxiety medication.

“I have a prescription.”

5. Here’s really how she became friends with Amy Schumer.

“I emailed her after I saw Trainwreck and said: ‘I don’t know where to get started. I guess I should just say it: I’m in love with you.’ We started emailing, and then emailing turned to texting.”

6. She’s almost done writing their movie.

“Amy and I are writing a movie together! We play sisters, and we’re almost done writing. It just flowed out of us. We’ve got about 100 pages right now.”

7. She’s, like, really good friends with Amy Schumer.

“Amy and I were creatively made for each other. We have different flavors. It’s been the most fun experience of my life. We start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then we send each other pages. And we crack up.”

8. In fact, they text whenever possible.

“Let me just text Amy and tell her that I told you,” she tells the interviewer, firing away a text and receiving an instant response. “I wrote, ‘I just spilled the beans to The New York Times. Is that O.K.?’ And Amy wrote back: ‘That you’re gay? Totally! It’s exciting!'”

9. Here’s how Kris Jenner ended up at her birthday party.

“My two best friends planned a surprise birthday with a big surprise within the surprise. So I’m there, and people start singing ‘Happy Birthday.’ Kris Jenner comes out holding my cake. It was the closest I’ve ever come to losing consciousness. I had no idea! I’d never met her before, but we’ve always watched Keeping Up With the Kardashians. And then Kris Jenner and I sang ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’ on karaoke and took that picture.”

10. She feels more confident in her work these days.

“I believe in myself more, and that makes things easier. Early on, you wear clothes you don’t want to wear or say the sound bite you didn’t want to say because you’re afraid to speak up or be rude. And then you start to feel like a puppet. Now I just speak up.”

11. She’s still friends with her Hunger Games co-stars.

“On the last day it was so emotional, and we kind of couldn’t let go of each other. We were kind of freaked out that something was ending. And then, a week later, we were hanging out at Liam [Hemsworth’s] house. We were like, ‘Oh, O.K., so now we can just be friends.'”
