LISTEN: Here’s Sam Smith’s ‘Writing’s On the Wall’ in All Its 007 Glory

Sam Smith’s big 007 day has finally arrived with the official release of his new song for Spectre.

“Writing’s On The Wall,” penned by Smith and songwriter Jimmy Napes (“Stay With Me”) includes just enough fanfare for it to be a James Bond movie theme song and just enough falsetto goodness for it to be a Sam Smith song.

According to Smith, the track was created “in the shoes of Bond” and made in less than half an hour.

“My music is a diary and it’s a recap of my life, and I wanted to bring that kind of honesty,” the British crooner told NPR in an interview released Friday (Sept. 25).

“In the lyrics — “How do I live, how do I breathe? / When you’re not here I’m suffocating” — I wanted a touch of vulnerability from Bond, where you see into his heart a little bit.”
