Ed Sheeran Did Not Want to Anger Jay Z While Getting ‘Drunk in Love’ with Beyoncé
Do not disturb the slumbering H.O.V.A.
Prior to introducing listeners to Jamie Lawson, the first singer signed to his label (Gingerbread Man Records), Sheeran described his conversation with Queen Bey after their performance.
“I had a conversation with her after it and I was like, ‘I hope you weren’t offended!’ because she was like looking at me,” he said. “But I had my eyes closed the whole time.”
Sheeran explained that he diverted his gaze to avoid being pummelled by her husband Jay Z, who stood by off-stage.
“The song is quite open and I just don’t want to make eye contact with someone’s wife when I’m singing lyrics like that.”
