Nicki Minaj Headed for Boob Tube as ABC Family Announces New Comedy

ABC Family and Her Minajesty announced Tuesday (Sept. 29) that a comedy based on the rapper’s childhood in Queens, NY is in the works.
Minaj, who moved from her birthplace of Trinidad and Tobago to the South Jamaica neighborhood of Queens when she was 5 years old, will serve as the show’s executive producer. She’ll also appear in the comedy series, which will be written by Kate Angelo (Will and Grace, Sex Tape).
“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” Minaj said in a statement [via Deadline]. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
A pilot is scheduled to be filmed in Queens this winter with the “intention to continue the series,” according to Deadline.
Minaj’s acting reel includes a supporting part in The Other Woman, a lead in Barbershop 3, out in April 2016, and the voice of Steffie the mammoth in the fourth Ice Age movie.
