Will Smith Says Jared Leto Was ‘All In’ For His Role as the Joker
Suicide Squad can’t come soon enough.
Smith, who plays Deadshot in the movie, described Suicide Squad as ‘insane’ when talking to Beats 1. He also revealed that due to his co-star’s dedication to the role, he doesn’t feel like he actually met the real Jared Leto.
“I’ve never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for six months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’” he said. “I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be ‘Hey, Jared. What’s up?’ He was all in on the Joker.”
We got a sense of Jared’s commitment to the character a few months ago when he sent strange gifts to his cast members. Leto got into character by sending Margot Robbie a live rat, and the rest of the cast a ‘dead hog’ while they were filming scenes without him to let them know he was doing his research.
Co-star Adam Beach told E! at the time, “Basically, what he said was, ‘Guys, I can’t be there but I want you to know I’m doing my work as hard as you guys. . . . The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real.”
Suicide Squad wrapped filming at the end of August, and is set to be released on Aug. 5, 2016.
