Bona Fide Lifestyle Guru Martha Stewart Supports Blake Lively’s Decision to Shutter Preserve

As the original (badass) Queen of lifestyle, DIY, home decor and crafts, Martha Stewart knows a thing or two about balance.

And when it comes to Blake Lively and her decision to shut down her lifestyle site Preserve, Stewart totally gets it.

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I know she made a big effort. Sometimes shuttering is good. Listen, she’s a movie actress. Why bother with commerce right now? She’s at the top of her career… I’m totally supportive, but you know what? Maybe you can’t do everything at the same time,” the 74-year-old told Us Weekly at the 17th Annual Hudson River Park Gala in NYC on Oct. 8.

In other words, take it easy Blake, ’cause reaching peak Lifestyle enthusiast status evidently will take more time, something that Lively herself confessed back when she first announced her decision in to put the breaks on Preserve in Vogue and revealed that she has her next step in mind.

She explained in part,

…We launched the site before it was ready, and it never caught up to its original mission: It’s not making a difference in people’s lives, whether superficially or in a meaningful way. And that’s the whole reason I started this company, not just to fluff myself, like, ‘I’m a celebrity! People will care what I have to say!’ It was so never meant to be that, and that kind of became the crutch.

In the week leading up to Monday’s closure (Oct. 12), Lively discounted her products an extra 60% off sale items.

All that remains of her site now is a simple photo of a tree with the words, “Thank you for sharing your stories and preserving with us.”

Last week, Lively shared with fans her aptitude for “wearing many hats,” as they say, with a cute photo:

Thank you guys for your support every step of the way in the @preserve_us adventure. I couldn’t be more grateful!! One day I’ll stop wearing so many hats ….but …I’ll probably be dead by then, so… 🎩💀👒☺️😉 I’m just doin’ what mama taught me ;) She’s my idol. Who’s yours? 💖 💪👗💖#WhyIsThereNoEmojiForSpiceGirlsGirlPowerFingers ?!!!

So long and farewell, Preserve; we look forward to Lively’s next business venture.
