Taylor Swift Will Co-Chair the Technology-Themed 2016 Met Gala

Taylor Swift just landed a major fashion gig.

The annual Met Gala is a big deal in every way possible. So, after the year that Swift has had, with her sold out 1989 Tour and her countless magazine covers, it comes to no surprise that the “Wildest Dreams” singer will take centre stage at what is know as the Oscars of fashion.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced on Tuesday (Oct. 13, 2015) that the new theme for next year’s Costume institute exhibition will be Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. According to a report from Vogue, it “will focus on the dichotomy between handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion.”

The museum also announced the 2016 Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 2, and will be hosted by Swift, Idris Elba, Jonathan Ive, and Anna Wintour. The gala and exhibition sponsor will be none other than Apple.

Swift will follow in Jennifer Lawrence’s footsteps, who hosted the last year’s event. At the 2015 Met Gala, everyone from Kim Kardashian to Sarah Jessica Parker wowed with their fashion sense. There were even a few fashion mishaps (who can forget Rihanna’s omelette gown), however this year we can probably expect a few selfie sticks.
