When photos of the swimsuit-clad singer showering with the openly bisexual model after a yachting trip surfaced in 2014, many were quick to speculate that the two were ore than friends. UnlikeTaylor Swift, who quickly lashed out at reports that she’s romantically involved with pal Karlie Kloss after they were seen “getting close” during a concert, Gomez confessed those dating rumors about Delevingne actually made her very happy.
In her latest interview with PrideSource, the 23-year-old said it was actually a relief to have tabloids linking her to a friend.
“Honestly, I loved it. I didn’t mind it,” she told the publication. “Especially because they weren’t talking about other people in my life for once, which was wonderful.”
“Honestly, though, she’s incredible and very open and she just makes me open,” Gomez said of Delevingne, who is now in a relationship with singer St. Vincent. “She’s so fun and she’s just extremely adventurous, and sometimes I just want that in my life, so I didn’t mind it. I loved it.”
Despite admittedly having never been in a relationship or fallen for someone who is gay, Gomez did say she’s questioned her sexuality before.
“Oh, I think everybody does, no matter who they are. I do, yeah, of course. Absolutely,” she said. “I think it’s healthy to gain a perspective on who you are deep down, question yourself and challenge yourself; it’s important to do that.”
So, who would be her go-to love interest if she were to play a gay character onscreen? According to her, it’s not Delevingne.
As for BFF Swift? Well, Gomez said they’ll always have their girls’ night in.
“Taylor and I literally will have mini dance parties with all of her dancers who are 100 percent gay,” Gomez gushed, laughing. “And it’s the best feeling ever! It is so fun, and we just lose our minds.”
