Prince William References His Mother in Touching Speech About Family

Prince William made a heartfelt speech recently.

He attended Child Bereavement UK’s 21st anniversary dinner where he made a speech about the charity that is near and dear to his heart. The Prince spoke about what it means to him, personally, to support the cause.

“Twenty one years ago last month, my mother attended the launch of the Child Bereavement Charity. Fifteen years later, I was honored to be invited to become Patron of Child Bereavement UK to continue my mother’s commitment to a charity, which is very dear to me,” he said during his speech.

He continued by saying, “What my mother recognized back then—and what I understand now—is that grief is the most painful experience that any child or parent can endure.”

The charity is run by Prince William’s son George’s godmother, Julia Samuel, who was also a close friend of Princess Diana.

“[M]y mother was determined to help those in need and she would have been immensely proud, as I am, of all that Child Bereavement UK has achieved these last 21 years,” Prince William continued. “As a father to two young children myself, I now appreciate it all the more.”

(As most of the world should already know by now) Prince William welcomed his second childCharlotte, on May 2, 2015, with the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
