Great News, Sweetie Dahlings: ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’ Has Officially Begun Filming

'Ab Fab' Ressurection: Part Deux
Get your passport, sweetie darling!

Break out the Bollinger! The Absolutely Fabulous movie is officially happening.

Fox Searchlight Pictures just announced that principal photography for Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie has begun. Above you will see stars Joanna Lumley (as Patsy Stone) and Jennifer Saunders (as Ed(w)ina Monsoon) in the first promo image taken from the film set. It’s the first look we’ve had at our favorite past-their-prime booze hounds since the 2012 holiday and Olympics specials. A press release accompanying the photo reads:

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS: THE MOVIE reunites Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley as the iconic Edina and Patsy along with the rest of the original cast that includes Julia Sawalha as Saffy, Jane Horrocks as Bubble and June Whitfield as Mother. The award-winning team behind the camera includes Mandie Fletcher (“Blackadder,” “Absolutely Fabulous”) directing from a script by Jennifer Saunders, producers Jon Plowman (“Absolutely Fabulous,” “The Vicar of Dibley”) and Damian Jones (THE IRON LADY, BELLE, DAD’S ARMY) with Steve Milne, Christian Eisenbeiss, Christine Langan, Nichola Martin, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, and Maureen Vincent serving as executive producers. The film will be released in 2016.

“I am thrilled and excited to finally start filming,” said Saunders, who co-created the series and wrote the film’s script (as she wrote all episodes of the series.) “We are all taking our medication and hoping for the best.” And while we don’t know much about the movie just, we do now know this:

Appropriate for their big screen debut, Edina and Patsy are still oozing glitz and glamour, living the high life they are accustomed to; shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots.  Blamed for a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forever more!

We also know that Saunders was trying to get every famous person who appeared in the show to appear in the movie. Apparently, many A-List guest stars “from the acting, music, and fashion worlds” have signed on, though no specifics were given.

In other words, like a LaCroix fashion show, this is an event not to be missed. See you in 2016, you little bitch trolls from hell.
