You Know Zendaya Wasn’t Going to Let a Magazine Get Away with Retouching Her Photos

Zendaya will call you out on your B.S.

She’s done it before, and she’ll do it again. The 19-year-old singer, actress and model slammed Modeliste magazine for retouching the photos in her cover story shoot.

She went on Instagram to talk to her 13.8 million followers about positive body image, and decided to include one photo from the shoot before and after it had been retouched.

“Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated,” she wrote. “These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love.”

It’s clear the photo has been retouched, from her waist to her thighs.

Things rarely get past Zendaya. Earlier this year she decided to speak out against internet trolls who called her parents ugly by saying, “While you’re so concerned about what my parents look like, please know that these are two of the most selfless people in the world.” She has also been known to post plenty of makeup-free selfies to show the world what she looks like “edit-less.”

Recently, Barbie released their own custom Zendaya doll. “She’s a role model who is focused on standing up for yourself, your culture, and for what you believe in— that’s very relevant for girls,” a spokesperson for Mattel told Today.
