This Is Why Halle Berry Hasn't Been Wearing Her Wedding Ring
Are Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez heading for a divorce?

After two years of marriage, Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez are calling it quits.

TMZ broke the news that Berry filed for divorce from Martinez, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

The couple released a statement:

It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce.  We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son.  We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children’s privacy, as we go through this difficult period.

A source close to the couple commented, “They have a personality difference.”

Another source added, “They’re just very, very different people. He’s a very macho guy, and things just didn’t ‘jive.'”

Martinez was involved in a fight at LAX back in January of this year, when he and Berry were traveling with her 6-year-old Nahla (with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry) and their 2-year-old MaceoHe hit an airport employee with a car seat after the man got caught up in the scuffle with the swarming paparazzi, and Martinez was charged with assault.

Apparently, the actor was sued by the airport employee last week for $5 million, and the couple got into an argument about it. TMZ notes the incident was the “breaking point” for them both, and that Berry happened to file for divorce first.

Berry is reportedly not asking for joint or primary custody, but rather for whatever is in “the best interests of the child.” As for money, they had a prenup.

Furthermore, TMZ notes Berry is expecting a “quick, non-contentious divorce.”

The Oscar-winning actress and Martinez met in 2010 on the set of Dark TideThey got engaged in 2012 and wed in Martinez’s native France in July 2013. Maceo was born in October of that same year.

Martinez had previously gotten into a violent altercation with Aubry in November 2012. The men mutually decided not to pursue criminal charges for Aubry and Berry’s daughter’s sake. The former model originally filed for a restraining order against Martinez, claiming he had threatened to kill him during the dispute.

Prior to her marriage with Martinez, Berry was married to singer Eric Benét from 2001–2005 and baseball player David Justice from 1992–1997.

Since this story is still developing, we’ll update with further information as it comes out. Is anyone surprised by this latest divorce?
