Kendall Jenner Reveals Struggles With Acne
In a new post shared on her website, the 19-year-old details the years she spent dealing with low self-esteem stemmed from her acne.
According to the model, she started having skin issues around the 8th or 9th grade and became very self-conscious about her appearance in the process.
“It completely ruined my self-esteem. I wouldn’t even look at people when I talked to them. I felt like such an outcast; when I spoke, it was with my hand covering my face. Sure, I had crushes in high school, but I wouldn’t even think about looking at guys,” she wrote. “But, I was thankful we always talked about it in my family. They would help me work on my feelings about it and how I would move past that stage of my life.”
She continued, “I remember on Christmas Eve one year, I was sitting in my bedroom upstairs crying and Kim [Kardashian] walked in and we talked about it together — she felt so bad for me.”
Jenner, who’s been “acne-free for about three years now,” attributes her now clear skin to combination of her growing up, her “incredible dermatologist” and Laser Genesis, which is said to improve skin texture.
“What I want everyone to understand is that it’s been a process: It wasn’t anything that happened overnight. Even after things started to clear up, it took a solid amount of time to be okay with my skin and gain back my confidence,” Jenner wrote. “Still, with one zit, I’m a little bit self-conscious. But slowly, I’m working towards not caring and I’m just in so much of a better place about it all now that I’m older.”
She added, “I realized that it’s a part of life for some people and it doesn’t define who you are.”
