WATCH: Taylor Swift Reveals Anxiety During Relationship with Harry Styles in ‘Out of the Woods’ Acoustic Performance

Birthdays are always a little emotional.

Taylor Swift shared a never-before-seen stripped down performance of “Out of the Woods” in honor of her album’s first birthday that was filmed earlier in 2015 at the Grammy Museum.

Before tickling the ivories with her emotionally charged fingers, Swift explains that the inspiration behind her song came from her rocky relationship with One Direction member, Harry Styles.

“The number one feeling I felt in the relationship was anxiety, because it felt very fragile. It felt very tentative,” she explains. “It always felt like, okay, what’s the next road block? What’s the next thing that’s gonna deter this? How long do we have before this turns into an awful mess and we break up?”

She reflects gratefully on the experience, noting that her time with Styles was “meaningful” in its fragility even though their relationship was not as “solid” as she had hoped it would be.
