Katie Holmes to Address Scientology and Leah Remini in ’20/20′ Special
Katie Holmes will be discussing Scientology in an interview for the very first time.
Update — Oct. 30, 16:11 ET:
According to TMZ, it may turn out that Holmes is just releasing a statement that says the following:
“I regret having upset Leah in the past and wish her only the best in the future.”
She’ll be responding to the claims recently made by former Scientologist Leah Remini, who spilled some of the finer details about the Church as well as about Holmes’ relationship to huge Scientologist Tom Cruise in an interview with ABC News’ Dan Harris, which is set to air on Friday (Oct. 30).
Earlier this morning, Harris teased the upcoming segment on Good Morning America. He commented, “You’re also going to hear from Katie Holmes, the former wife of Tom Cruise. [And] what she is now saying about Leah.”
In the interview, Remini recalls an incident when she went to Cruise’s home to teach him how to salsa dance, adding that Holmes, Cruise’s then-girlfriend, and two high-ranking Scientology officials were there to monitor:
At first it’s very effusive, it’s very loving—you get the laser in on you and you’re the most important thing that ever happened…
He was, like, forcibly kissing Katie. I said, ‘Hey, get a friggin’ room.’
She then alleges that her comment got her in trouble with the Church. “I was written up for that,” she said, referring to the practice of Knowledge Reports, Scientology’s way of reporting on each other.
Remini added, “Being critical of Tom Cruise is being critical of Scientology itself…You are evil.”
Allegedly since Cruise and Holmes’ 2006 Rome wedding, the couple and Remini have been on bad terms. According to a notorious Scientology blog The Underground Bunker, Holmes felt that Remini ruined her wedding. Remini allegedly was asking about the missing wife of Scientology leader (and Cruise’s best man) David Miscavige, amongst other things (for example, Remini’s BFF Jennifer Lopez was there too, and somehow Remini caused a disturbance because J. Lo wanted to sit by her).
Holmes was infamously married Cruise from 2006 – 2012. According to a 2013 deposition for Cruise’s $50 million lawsuit against tabloid magazines, he said that Holmes went through with the divorce in part because she was concerned for their daughter Suri and wanted to protect her from the Church.
Remini’s interview, which includes Holmes’ response to her comments, will air Friday at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
