Gwen Stefani Reportedly ‘Blown Away’ by Blake Shelton’s Kindess Post-Gavin Rossdale Divorce
Gwen Stefani leaned on her The Voice co-star Blake Shelton post-divorce from longtime love Gavin Rossdale, and as we all know now, that friendship turned into romance and (unsurprisingly) a musical collaboration.
Sources (friends and associates alike) explained to TMZ that Shelton really gave her self-esteem a boost. Apparently she told people close to her that Rossdale was a “control freak,” controlling in their relationship often by saying “disparaging things,” TMZ notes.
For example, he would criticize her parenting skills (they share three young boys, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo) and for “not being a supportive wife.” Thus, when good ol’ country boy Blake came along, she was “blown away” by his kindness. As one source put it, “It made her feel good again.”
On top of that, she really connected with Blake because he was “fun,” which was something “she had been missing in her life for a long time.”
Before the news that they were dating broke, Shelton allegedly called his former The Voice co-star Christina Aguilera, telling her that he had “a crush” on Stefani. Apparently Aguilera was less than hopeful that the duo would become a thing, telling him, “Ha, good luck with that.”
As for Shelton’s ex-wife Miranda Lambert, who earlier this week reportedly said she was “not surprised” by their romance because they’d always been “flirty,” it appears that she’s trying to stay on the up and up in the wake of their quickie divorce back in July. After her big win at the CMA Awards on Wednesday night (Nov. 4), yesterday she posted a heartfelt message to Facebook:
“Horse Power”….. I’m still floating around on a cloud from last night. Thank you so much @cma for celebrating country music in a big way and for letting me be part of it. Today was a day spent reflecting on this amazing life that Nashville and country music fans have given me. And my friends. I’m so grateful #inspired #gypsyvanner #nomakeuptillnextweek #musicismedicine #chrisstapleton #unicorn #ponyportrait
While accepting the award for Female Vocalist of the Year at the CMA’s, Lambert told the cheering crowd, “Hi guys, thank you so much. Man, I really appreciate it. I needed a bright spot this year, so thank you…”
The CMA Awards were a big night for the former couple, having to share the spotlight and all (especially in light of Shelton’s new romance with Gwen breaking earlier in the day). Co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood couldn’t help by poke fun of their divorce during the show. Paisley said, “We can’t ignore the break-up that really rocked our world, the one that’s on everybody’s mind. Two people in this very room who we all know and love – splitsville.” The camera then panned to Kermit and Miss Piggy.
“They’re not even sitting together!” he said, then adding, “On an unrelated note, howdy, Blake!”
Luckily, Blake knew it was coming and knew it was all in fun:
Ha!!! Don’t worry brother man. If there’s anybody on earth who’s learned to take it its me!!! Love you buddy. https://t.co/DyGxhGKAtG
