LISTEN: One Direction’s Newest Song Is Here to Make Every Directioner Cry

Hey, One Direction Fans
Harry Styles has a sweet little message for you.

The group says farewell to their fans.

Just days before releasing their upcoming fifth album, Made in the A.M., One Direction dropped a new, bittersweet anthem called “History” that features a chorus of singing fans. “You and me got a whole lot of history/ We could be the greatest team that the world has ever seen/ You and me got a whole lot of history/ So don’t let it go, we can make some more, we can live forever,” they sing.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Liam Payne describes the new single as a “modern version” of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. He explained:

More than anything, the song is about the way the fans and everyone have created this massive thing — One Direction — over the past five years. Out of [“History”] comes a little bit of closure for this chapter of One Direction.

In case you didn’t know, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam announced that they are going on an “extended hiatus,” so basically the song can be interpreted as a celebration of their five-year journey alongside their fans.

Listen to “History” below — and try not to cry.
