Reese Witherspoon Jokes About Playing Amy Schumer’s Grandmother

Reese Witherspoon Accepts Award
Reese was honored at the 29th American Cinematheque Awards with her children.

At this year’s Glamour Women of the Year Awards, Reese Witherspoon joked that because of Hollywood’s ageism and sexism, she’d probably play Amy Schumer’s grandmother in a biopic.

During her acceptance speech for her Hollywood Hero Award, 39-year-old Reese playfully asked for Amy’s life rights to produce her biopic.

The Legally Blonde actress then commented:

Although, Amy, I’m five years older than you, so I’ll probably have to play your grandmother in the movie, by Hollywood standards, and you’ll probably have to play your own mother.

Witherspoon’s speech was a rousing call for more female representation both in front of and behind the camera.  She said that she would continue to champion women in film, working to create more female-focused films.

Reese added, “Like Elle Woods, I do not like to be underestimated.”
