Queen of Rap and Innovative Music Videos Missy Elliott Is Back With ‘WTF (Where They From)’
The only memorable part of this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show is back with her first proper single in ages.
Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott last released an album in 2005, which, if you’re bad at math, is a full 10 years ago. (So for those of you who thought Adele took too long to release 25, may I invite you to have a seat?) Despite a few guest verses and one-off singles, the world has been tragically suffering through a drought of new Missy music for all of these years. But it seems Missy is gearing up for a proper return, and if “WTF (Where They From)” is any indication of the direction Missy will be taking, we are absolutely here for it. The song and video are everything one hopes for from one of the most entertaining and innovative presences in rap and popular music in general.
A few things you can expect to see in the video:
- Mirrorball hoodie
- Marionette versions of Missy and guest rapper Pharrell (!!!)
- Ichiban: Lipstick for Men
- Cardboard coffin things?
- Roy Lichtenstein makeup
- Predictably amazing dancing
Watch the video — directed by Missy and Dave Meyers (who worked on iconic clips like “Work It” and “Get Ur Freak On“) — above and remind yourself why the world is so much better when Missy is releasing new music.
