Krysten Ritter Never Thought She’d Play A Superhero
These days, Krysten Ritter is busy playing Jessica Jones in the Netflix series, but she says she never thought it’d turn out that way.
All 13 episodes of Marvel’s Jessica Jones have just hit Netflix, so if you’re reading this, chances are you’ve already binge-watched the entire season already. But if you haven’t, let Krysten fill you in on her thoughts on playing the character.
“I never in a million years fancied myself playing a superhero,” the 33-year-old told People. “I don’t look like superheroes that we’ve all seen in that female form with the outfit and the boobs and the big hair– that’s just not me.”
Ritter, who has previously starred in shows like Breaking Bad and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 says she liked the character more when she learned this wasn’t some typical spandex costume-wearing superhero.
“I was like, ‘Well, I’m never going to get that,’ and my manager was like, ‘No, no– it’s actually really right for you: she’s a superhero, but she’s really bad at it,’ So in my mind, I’m like, ‘Is this like a slapstick comedy? What is this?’ I went in knowing so little about the part. I had no idea what was in store for me.”
When talking about her past roles, Krysten said, “I’ve had opportunities to be funny or be more dramatic in things, but never once have I had an opportunity like this where I literally got to use everything I’ve got.”
In the show, Krysten plays a former superhero-turned private detective in New York City who opens her own agency called Alias.
