Lamar Odom Has ‘Cognitive Impairment,’ Struggles to Walk and Talk
Lamar Odom is road to recovery will be a long one.
The 36-year-old basketball player, who was hospitalized Oct. 13 after he was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel, is said to still be struggling to walk and talk on his own. Now seeking treatment at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the former NBA star is reportedly dealing with “serious longterm and lasting issues” attributable to the multiple strokes he suffered when he overdosed last month.
“Lamar has made some progress, but his cognitive impairment is making life very challenging,” a source tells People.
“Lamar won’t likely leave the hospital for a long time,” the insider says. “And when he does, he will need full time care. He can’t take care of himself.”
Though Odom’s estranged wife, Khloé Kardashian, has been by his side to care for him, it’s said that Odom will need around-the-clock support to complete everyday task in the future. The source adds that Odom is “a fighter who works hard every day” and that Kardashian, 31, “has been amazing” in helping him get better.
“With Khloé in his life, Lamar is very lucky,” the source says of Kardashian, who reportedly contracted a staph infection while spending time in the hospital with Odom.
However, despite Odom’s progress, it’s said that his body has suffered some irreversible damage that will affect him for the rest of his life.
“Lamar has serious longterm and lasting issues,” says the family insider. “His life will never be the same as it once was.”
