Gwen Stefani Calls Blake Shelton the ‘Michael Jackson of Country Music’

Gwen Stefani thinks very highly of Blake Shelton.

After Shelton, 39, took home the Artist of the Year honor at the 2015 CMT Awards on Wednesday night, Stefani, 46, took to Instagram to praise her boyfriend. Sharing a video of a manicurist painting a portrait of Shelton’s face onto a fingernail, the No Doubt frontwoman gushed, “[email protected] #cmtartistoftheyear #michaeljacksonofcountrymusic.”

We don’t know what’s more awkward: Blake Shelton as country music’s Michael Jackson, or the fact that Gwen Stefani posted an Inatagram video of herself filming another Instagram video.

While accepting his award that night, Shelton referenced the “crazy year” he’s had in divorcing wife Miranda Lambert before rebounding with fellow The Voice coach Stefani.

“Let me just say that I want to thank my label and thank my entire team,” Shelton told the crowd. “There’s too many people to stand up here and name, but more importantly, I want to say that this has been a crazy year, from the way it started to how it’s ending is so awesome for me. So thank you all. This is a great way to end it for me. Thank you so much.”

According to recent reports, Stefani may be going country real soon as well. Soon after the couple confirmed their relationship, word got out that the new couple have recorded a country ballad together.

“It’s amazing how good she sounds on a pretty country song,” an industry source told People. “And it sure is good to hear Blake singing real country again.”
