Former Stone Temple Pilots Singer Scott Weiland Has Died

Early Friday morning, Scott Weiland’s Facebook page confirmed that the former Velvet Revolver and Stone Temple Pilots singer lost his life at the age of 48.

The post on Scott’s Facebook page contains the following message:

Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts.

Fans first learned of Scott’s passing when Weiland’s bandmate, Dave Navarro, posted a now-deleted Tweet at 9 p.m. Thursday night that said simply, “Our friend Scott Weiland has died.”

Weiland’s passing occurred during his tour with his band, The Wildabouts, who were slated to perform in both Reno, Nevada and Napa, California later this month.

A prominent figure from the ‘90s grunge music movement, Weiland suffered from long-time substance abuse issues, including heroin addiction.

Since the announcement on Facebook, remembrances have been posted from all over the world by fans.
