Morgan Freeman’s Plane Forced to Make Emergency Crash Landing

Thankfully, no one was harmed.

Morgan Freeman had quite the scare on Saturday (Dec. 5, 2015). A plane carrying the actor blew a tire during takeoff, forcing it to make an emergency landing at a Mississippi airport. He and the pilot were reportedly the only two onboard the plane. The Academy Award winner was en route to Texas to film a segment for National Geographic, but complications arose when they left the ground, which forced them to make an emergency landing at Tunica.

Freeman, who recently lost his step-granddaughter in a fatal stabbing earlier this year, said in a statement (via PEOPLE) that he was on his way to shoot a segment for The Story of God.

Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on take-off which caused other problems. But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch. I cannot say the same about my plane.

This isn’t the first time the actor has experienced problems with a private jet. Back in 2014, on his way to the Toronto Film Festival, Morgan was forced land a malfunctioning plane.
