WATCH: ’Downton Abbey’ Stars Show Off American Accents to Stephen Colbert

'Downton Abbey' Trailer
A new 'Downton Abbey' season 6 trailer hints at changes for the family.

Stephen Colbert convinced the stars of the popular BBC series, Dowtown Abbey, to drop their charming English accents and do their best impersonations of everyday Americans.

Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery and Allen Leech showed up to promote the premiere of the sixth and final season of the series on Colbert’s The Late Show.

The chatty talk show host commented how much Americans enjoy the stars’ “plummy” accents. As a test, he asked to see what it would sound like if they read lines from the show as Americans.

The result was pretty ridiculous. One might argue that the American version would do better as a comedy.

Check out the first episode of the final season on PBS Masterpiece on Jan. 3, 2016.
