Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid Helped a Homeless ‘Hippie’ Kickstart His Modeling Career

And now for a modern day fairytale.

John Economou, a 20-year-old Milwaukee native living on Venice Beach with only a toothbrush and two changes of clothes, was relaxing on the sand when good fortune fell upon his aspired modeling career in the form of Kendall Jenner and Gigi HadidThe Victoria’s Secret models approached him after they finished filming a commercial, drawn by his good looks.

“I saw bodyguards at the corner. I thought they were police at first and I thought ‘What are they doing?’” he recalls to The Daily Mail. “Then I saw seagulls swarming around the girls because they brought the food out and I started walking over there to shoo them away.”

“One of the girls said to me, “You’re cute”, so I turned around and we struck up conversation. I didn’t realize who I was speaking to at first and it finally clicked who it was.”

Jenner and Hadid were joined by actor Ansel Elgort, and Kendall’s manager, Ashleah Gonzalez. After Economou explained that he came to California to pursue a modeling career and was living the homeless “hippie life”, the girls suggested that he should take up modeling in Los Angeles. Jenner pulled strings to get him signed at Two Management, the agency where her own modeling career began. Though he still hasn’t booked any major gigs, he continues to “audition like crazy”.

The nicknamed ‘Romeo of Venice Beach’ picks up girls and spends the night at their house when he doesn’t feel like sleeping on the beach. “If a girl comes up to me and finds me attractive, I’ll give her my energy,” he tells New York Daily News.

Still, Economou lives a more privileged life than most homeless persons. He saved up $4,000 to make his grand move to L.A. after dropping out of college, plus his parents pay for his iPhone 6. “I don’t have an apartment; I don’t have a house out here. I don’t know where I want to settle down yet,” he says.
