Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez Speaks Out Following Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe Flub
Ariadna Gutierrez, 21, thanked fans on Instagram for supporting her after she was awarded the title Miss Universe, and then almost immediately had it taken away after it was revealed Harvery read the wrong name off of his results card. Gutierrez was actually the first-runner up, and Miss Philippines’ Pia Wurtzbach was named Miss Universe.
After the storm comes the calm. I want to thank each and everyone of you who have sent messages of support and strength. Every one of you has become an incredible human being in my book and I am the most fortunate and thankful for having the support not only from one country but from the whole entire world. Your destiny is written for you. And my destiny was this. I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes…
Wishing Alonzo well and congratulating her on the title, she continued:
Today because of that COLOMBIA and the LATIN COMMUNITY are being talked about in every corner of the world. I also want to congratulate the Philippines for their new Miss Universe 🙏🏼. The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible. Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen. Thank you all for your LOVE SUPPORT and KINDNESS. ❤️
Following the awful mistake, Harvey apologized via Twitter writing: “I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible.”
Many commentators, including Miss Germany, and the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, wished that Gutierrez had been the ultimate winner while Donald Trump, who sold his stake in the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants earlier this year, said he would have made Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines co-winners in light of Harvey’s mistake.
In other news, TMZ reports that Gutierrez was (of course) offered a porn deal up by Vivid Entertainment. Steve Hirsch, the head of Vivid, has offered the beauty contestant a contract up to $1 million, in which she’ll get to choose the partner and other finer details of the movie/acts. We assume Gutierrez will take a hard pass.
