WATCH: Rashida Jones Writes Musical Love Letter to the Nineties in ‘Flip and Rewind’
With her song and music video for “Flip and Rewind,” Rashida Jones sings lovingly about a bygone era of mixtapes, smooth R&B jams, choreographed dance moves and oversized, high-waisted jeans.
The star of Angie Tribeca is the daughter of famed music producer and icon, Quincy Jones, and shows off her musical chops in this video that highlights some of the decade’s funnest fashions and music video tropes.
According to Jones, she and writing partner, Will McCormack, came up with the idea for “Flip and Rewind” because it was such a formative time for them both.
Rashida tells Rolling Stone:
The inspiration for the video that Will [McCormack] and I directed was to try to evoke the feeling of the Nineties, but not in a mocking way. I think for you and I both, it’s such an important time musically, emotionally and psychologically.
If acting doesn’t work out, Rashida’s smooth voice and dance moves could mean she could have a second career as a bonafide R&B star.
