When the “Space Oddity” singer passed on Sunday after a long battle with cancer, celebrities and fans alike took to social media to profess their sadness.

Adam Lambert tweeted, “I love how Bowie challenged people’s perception of gender stereotypes and what an Outsider truly was. He was SO ahead of his time.”

But Adam Lambert decided to take his love for Bowie a step further.

During a performance in Tokyo last night, Adam Lambert got a little personal, telling the audience about his sadness upon hearing of David Bowie’s death before breaking into a cover of Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” in a touching tribute.
