The Cast of ‘Harry Potter’ Remember Alan Rickman with Heartfelt Tributes

“Alan was my friend and so this is hard to write because I have just kissed him goodbye…”

Early this morning (Jan. 14, 2016), Hollywood was devastated by the news that Alan Rickman passed away at the age of 69, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Known for his roles in Die HardLove Actually and Harry Potter, the news was met by an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues alike.

Many took to social media to mourn the actor’s death, including many of his Harry Potter castmates.

Emma Watson shared her disbelief on Facebook, and posted her favorite Rickman quote on Twitter.

I’m very sad to hear about Alan today. I feel so lucky to have worked and spent time with such a special man and actor. I’ll really miss our conversations. RIP Alan. We love you

Daniel Radcliffe wrote a heartfelt tribute, in which he called Rickman, “one of the greatest actors I will ever work with.”

The tribute which begins, “Alan was my friend and so this is hard to write because I have just kissed him goodbye,” was shared by Dave Izkoff of the New York Times.

Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in Harry Potter, wrote about how much Rickman inspired him.
