Kelly Clarkson Is Returning to ‘American Idol’ as a Judge

Clay Aiken Slams "Boring" 'American Idol' Judges
Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Everything has come full circle.

Kelly Clarkson, who won American Idol’s very first season in 2002, will be returning to the FOX singing competition as a guest judge for its farewell run.

As Clarkson is currently pregnant with her second child, the singer will only be a temporary for the show’s live telecast in February, executive producer Trish Kinane said on Friday (Jan. 15, 2016) at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. She will join Season 15 judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr.

“We’ve invited her to be part of this season and she’s really happy to be,” Kinane told the crowd. “She will be a guest judge on our first live top 10 show and she’ll also perform.”

Kinane added that she’d like original judge Simon Cowell to appear on the series’ swan song as well, though they’d have to work out some scheduling conflict as the music producer recently joined the judging panel on America’s Got Talent.

“I appreciate Simon’s part in the history of the show and [it’s] a very important part,” Kinane said. “I think the most we can expect is for Simon to be at the finale.”

The word’s still out if Brian Dunkleman, the man that co-hosted American Idol with Ryan Seacrest before seemingly dropping off the face of the Earth, will make a cameo as well.
