Kristin Cavallari Was ‘Really Unhappy’ During ‘Laguna Beach’

Don’t believe everything you see on TV.

Kristin Cavallari, who became a known name alongside Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth in 2004 after appearing on Laguna Beach, says she was “really unhappy” when she was filming the MTV reality series that made her famous.

Laguna Beach was really our lives being manipulated by being put in situations we never would have been in normally,” she reveals to Momtastic. “It’s funny because on Laguna Beach I came off like the person who really had my shit together but I was a mess – like most teenagers. I was really unhappy. There’s a saying that you have to learn to love yourself before anyone else can love you, and it’s very true.”

Though having a camera follow her around during her high school days made her feel terrible, Cavallari admits she was totally game to appear on Laguna Beach’s spin-off, The Hills, in 2009.

“When I joined The Hills, I looked at it strictly as a job; we filmed three different scenes, three days a week. I had my life on-camera and a completely different life off-camera,” she explains. “I knew the character they wanted me to play, and this time I was game. Since I looked at it as a job, it was fun to play up the villain character.”

In 2013, Cavallari told Celebuzz that she wasn’t looking forward to a The Hills reunion. Though she admitted in the past that the show was “pretty fake” and all the drama was staged, the mom-of-three was hesitant on getting back together with LC, Audrina Partridge, Brody Jenner and the gang.

“So much has happened in my life since The Hills,” she said at the time. “For me to mentally go back to the place would be difficult. I’ve sort of moved on from it all.”
