Celine Dion Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Her Late Husband at Las Vegas Memorial Service

“René, the love of my life, would be so happy to know we are here together.”

Celine Dion remembered her late husband René Angélil in an emotional tribute at his memorial service, held at Las Vegas’ Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Wednesday, February 3. Dion addressed an audience comprised of friends, family, and fans, accompanied onstage by her son and Angélil’s children.

“Let me start by saying good evening, good friends. René, the love of my life, would be so happy to know we are here together. I feel the love in this room,” began Dion. “This is my home away from home. At the same time, I’m supposed to feel extremely comfortable being home, and right now, I’m not sure how comfortable I feel.”

Dion remembered Angélil for his warm spirit.

“René never hated anyone. Is it possible someone loves everybody? I don’t think so. But he never told me a person he disliked. Time was precious to him. He loved life so much, so very much.”

Dion’s husband passed away on Jan. 14 after fighting a long battle with throat cancer at age 73. The event was livestreamed worldwide, and can be watched in its entirety on a memorial site, here.
