Lady Gaga, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brie Larson & More Celebrities Attend the 2016 Oscar Nominees Luncheon

Not your typical group of lunch buddies.

A slew of celebrities were on hand for the 88th Annual Academy Awards nominee luncheon earlier today (Feb. 08, 2016) in Beverly Hills, California.

Nominees including Leonardo DiCaprio, Lady Gaga, Sylvester Stallone, Brie Larson, Eddie Redmayne, Alicia Vikander, Rooney Mara, and more attended the afternoon event at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

This year, the Oscars have been overshadowed by a revival of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. The social media-fueled uproar returned when, for a second consecutive year, only white actors were nominated by the Academy in the four performance categories, despite several widely praised turns by actors of color.

The backlash intensified when some prominent figures said they would boycott the ceremony, prompting the Academy to take drastic action in diversifying its membership.

Even Sylvester Stallone was ready to boycott this year’s Oscars in solidarity with his Creed colleagues.

“I remember I spoke with [‘Creed’ director] Ryan Coogler when this happened, and I said, ‘How do you want to handle this? Because I feel like you are responsible for me being here,’” Stallone told TheWrap at the luncheon honoring this year’s Oscars nominees on Monday.

Stallone, who also served as a producer and writer on “Creed” remembered, “I said, ‘If you don’t want me to go, I won’t.’ He said, ‘I want you to go.’ That’s the kind of guy he is. He wanted me to stand up for the film.”
