2016 Grammy Awards: Demi Lovato, John Legend & More Rock a Musical Tribute to Lionel Richie

Demi Lovato even earned Lionel Richie’s approval.

The “Confident” singer took the stage at her first-ever Grammy Awards on Monday night (Feb. 15, 2016) to sing “Hello,” Richie’s 1983 version. She, John LegendLuke Bryan, Meghan Trainor and Tyrese Gibson paid tribute to the legendary singer with a medley of his hits. However, it was Lovato’s performance that really got Richie emotional. Her version of the song was so powerful, Richie had tears in his eyes and mouthed the word “Yes” in excitement.

The medley of Richie hits kicked off with Legend singing “Easy Like Sunday Morning” and included snippets of other classics like “Penny Lover” sang by Bryan, “You Are” sang by Trainor and a performance of “Brick House” by Gibson. Richie finished off the musical tribute by joining the others on stage to sing his legendary song “All Night Long.”
