2016 Grammy Awards: Don Cheadle Almost Pulled a Kanye West on Taylor Swift’s Acceptance Speech

Deep breaths, Cheadle.

Don Cheadle held his tongue at the 2016 Grammy Awards when it was announced that Taylor Swift won Album of the Year instead of Kendrick Lamar. He revealed on Twitter that he almost stormed the stage a la Kanye West at the 2009 MTV VMAs.

He followed up with a second tweet on Tuesday morning (Feb. 16, 2016) in response to inevitable backlash from Swift fans.

Swift addressed the recent controversy surrounding “Famous“, a track from West’s latest album that claims that he made her famous and that they probably could still have sex, in her acceptance speech upon accepting the Grammy.

“I want to say to all the young women out there: there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame,” she began. “But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you’ll know it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”
