WATCH: Taylor Swift Happily Accepts NME’s Middle Finger Award
Taylor Swift is taking NME’s middle finger trophy as a “strange compliment” – it’s not rude, it’s just cheeky!
The 1989 singer won Best International Solo Artist at this year’s NME Awards, which is an annual music awards show in the United Kingdom founded by NME music magazine. Swift couldn’t attend the Wednesday night (Feb. 17) event, so she sent along a video acceptance speech instead.
I got the award in the mail! I gotta be honest with you about this. When you first open up the box, this feels a little aggressive…and then you get used to it. You put it on the shelf…
It’s kind of like LOL. But just saying at first, first impressions were a little weird here, but now I understand that this is actually like a strange compliment. You’re like being cheeky about it.
Thank you so much for the award!
Earlier this week, Swift took home the Grammy for Best Album of the Year, becoming the first woman to win the award twice. She threw shade back at Kanye West in the process, after he dissed her in his new song “Famous” with the lyric “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that bitch famous.” The rapper in turn said earlier this week:
I want the best for that person. The media tries to make this ongoing story and everything for hits. I don’t think people care about me or her in that way. People care about they families, they kids. If you like my music, listen to it. If you like her music, listen to it.
