A Look Back at This Year’s Awards Season Darling, Brie Larson
Brie Larson has been taking this award season by storm. After her heartbreaking performance in last year’s Room, co-starring Jacob Tremblay, the award-winning actress has been catching the eye of every film buff, helping her gain her current “it girl” status in Hollywood.
Although Larson has been involved with acting since the age of six, the Room actress insists that she’s nowhere near an “it girl.” Larson told CBS News last December about her confusion with the whole frenzy behind the word.
“But what is ‘it’? There is no ‘it!’” Larson said in the interview. “And who was ‘it’ before ‘it’? And when does ‘it’ go away? When did I get ‘it’? Who’s going to take ‘it’? It’s so weird.” “I think it’s a really funny term,” she continued. “I’m just a person. I’m not anything!”
Despite her aversion to her new A-list status, Larson has been building her career to this point with roles in 21 Jump Street as Molly Tracey, and playing Amy Schumer’s sister, Kim, in Trainwreck. Larson also starred as Kate Gregson in United States of Tara from 2009 to 2011. Some might even recognize her from Jenny Lewis’s “Just One of the Guys” music video, which also featured Anne Hathaway and Kristen Stewart.
It isn’t the first time the actress has been receiving acclaim for her performance in a film. In 2013, Larson received recognition through several Best Actress critic’s award nominations and wins for her performance in Short Term 12 as Grace.
During this award season, Larson has already won a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA amongst 14 other critic awards including the Critic’s Choice Award. With her overwhelming award wins this season it would be no surprise if she took home the Oscar this year for Best Actress in a Leading Role too.
Larson is now attached to Kong: Skull Island, which centers on the Origins of King Kong. Filming is currently taking place in Australia, and also stars Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson. The film is expected for a release in March, 2017.
With Larson making a successful climb as a A-lister, there’s no doubt that she’ll continue branching out on Hollywood’s radar.
