Update: Kesha Thanks Fans and Supporters for the First Time After Sony Court Ruling
The singer shared a small message of gratitude on her Instagram account on Tuesday (Feb. 23) with promise of a longer commentary to come.
“I am beyond words in gratitude,” she wrote in the caption of the below photo. “Thank you is not enough but it is all I have. A million times over and forever thank you. The support I have received has left my face swollen from tears. I love you all so much. A statement too large for this format is coming….”
Several celebrities have expressed verbal support on social media, including Reese Witherspoon and Anne Hathaway, while Taylor Swift donated $250,000 to her family. Lena Dunham wrote a powerful essay for her Lenny Letter that describes how Kesha’s case symbolizes much more for women than just a singular trial. “It’s about more than whether Kesha can strap on her cool leotards and make another album, free from a man who she says terrifies her,” wrote Dunham. “It’s even about more than the systemic misogyny of the entertainment industry, or the way that women in music and film have long been controlled and coerced by abusive Svengalis and entities larger than themselves.” Read Dunham’s letter in its entirety over on LennyLetter.com. UPDATE: Feb. 24, 2016 3:58 pm As promised, Kesha released a longer statement thanking her fans and supporters on Facebook. Read her entire statement below.
