WATCH: Tyga ‘Didn’t Understand’ Backlash Over His and Kylie Jenner’s Age Difference
When rumors began swirling that rapper Tyga and a then 17-year-old Kylie Jenner were hooking up, people were livid. They blamed Kris and Caitlyn Jenner for not being better parents, the Kardashian sisters for defending her actions, and Kylie for just being too grown up. Even though no laws were being broken (17 is the age of consent in California) no one quite understood what a 25-year-old rapper wanted with a teenager.
Even though the couple steadily denied they were dating, it was so obvious by the time they went public with their relationship on her 18th birthday, everyone was pretty much over it.
But nearly seven months after taking their relationship 100% public, Tyga still doesn’t see what the big deal was. The rapper stopped by KMEL in San Francisco, where he was asked how he dealt with the backlash, and he gave a sort of non-answer. “I don’t know, it’s kind of hard to talk about,” he admitted before adding, “I didn’t understand it though. Because I’m like, ‘This person is a really good person.'” He then proceeded to blame the hate on the devil, leading him away from god (god being Kylie?).
