Dustin Lance Black Shades Sam Smith’s Oscar Win, Accuses Smith of Trying to Sleep with His Fiance
Shade, shade, shade, shade!
Last night (Feb. 29, 2016), Sam Smith took home the Oscar for Best Original Song in a startling upset, but it was his acceptance speech that caused the most controversy. A shocked Smith dedicated his win to the LGBT community, after saying he believed he was the first openly gay man to win an Oscar.
“I read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellen, and he said that no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar,” he said. “If this is the case – even if it isn’t the case – I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world.”
While the sentiment was nice, unfortunately, the facts were wrong. McKellen actually said no openly gay actor had ever won an Oscar, but several openly gay people have taken home an academy award, including Elton John who took home the Oscar for that very same category. But Original Song isn’t the only category with openly gay winner, in 2009 Dustin Lance Black took home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Milk.
Black took it upon himself to not only remind Smith that he himself is an openly gay Oscar winner, but to also throw a ton of shade.

Yikes! Smith has yet to respond to Black’s tweet or accusations, but it sounds like the beginning of a major feud.
