2016 Academy Awards: Lady Gaga Stands with Rape Survivors in Powerful ‘Til It Happens to You’ Performance

Her love for Ziggy Stardust has been immortalized.

Lady Gaga is now 3 for 3.

The singer received a standing ovation at the end of her emotional performance of “Til It Happens to You” at the 2016 Academy Awards — and for good reason. Not only did she totally kill it, but made a powerful statement about sexual assault at the Oscars by bringing out survivors, all of whom had messages like “it’s not your fault” and “survivor” written on their arms.

Vice President Joe Biden introduced the pop star by saying, “Despite significant progress over the last few years, too many women and men on and off college campuses are still victims of sexual abuse.” Wearing a white suit and sitting behind a white grand piano, Gaga dramatically, and beautifully delivered the ballad that was nominated for an award. Although she lost to Sam Smith for “Writing’s on the Wall,” she’s still a winner in everyone’s eyes.

After tonight, she has now successfully delivered three incredible performances in a row — the Super Bowl, the Grammys, and now the 2016 Academy Awards.
