WATCH: Madonna Gets Emotional Onstage in a Tribute to Son Rocco Amid a Downhill Custody Battle
Mama Madonna is hanging on tight.
Madonna was choked up during a concert in Auckland, New Zealand when she took a moment to pay tribute to her 15-year-old son Rocco, who is caught in the middle of a custody battle with her ex-husband, Guy Ritchie. The singer prefaced a performance of “La Vie en Rose” dedicated to her son with a short speech that demonstrated her inner turmoil over the matter.
“There’s no love stronger than a mother for her son, and if I talk about him too much, I’m going to cry,” she says in the video below, from TMZ. “I hope he hears this somewhere and he knows how much I miss him.”
Ritchie and Madonna have been fighting over Rocco since the Rebel Heart singer departed for her tour back in December of 2015. Since then, their son has been living with Ritchie in London despite court orders which mandated his return to New York in January.
Madonna reportedly fears for the welfare of her son due to paparazzi photos that show her with a broken wrist, with a shaved head and “smoking suspicious substances“. A source close to Ritchie says that his laid back parenting style is intentional, as he feels that Madonna’s stern nature was “counterproductive“.
